I read a post on Digg today which sparked the political fire in my brain. It was a post which talked about how the republicans in the US Senate blocked debates about the non-binding resolution put forth to block the Bush Administration’s plans for surging troop deployment to Iraq. Forget that more troops are needed in Iraq. Forget that it took America 150+ years to adopt democracy in its current form. Forget that Iraq has been trying to adopt democracy for only two years. Put all that aside; it doesn’t matter.

What does matter is that the Bush Administration authorized the troop surge. What modern liberalism means is that whatever the Republicans do, do the opposite. If Bush opened up the embrionic stem cell lines (which the liberals - led by people like Michael J. Fox - have wanted from Bush all along) the democrats would reverse their official stance, and tell you why it’s bad. I’m not suggesting Bush would ever reverse his opinion, and he shouldn’t, but if he did, I guarantee you the democrats would line up against him.

Just as we consider compulsive shopping a mental disorder, so must we consider liberalism. Compulsive shoppers can’t help but to purchase things they don’t need or want, just because they’ve been told by Madison Ave. (the ad agencies) to buy them. Modern liberals feel compelled to support platform issues just because they’ve been told to support them. I fail to observe any difference.

Liberalism, the word is a derivation in some form of the word “liberty”. Liberty is synonymous with freedom, which should include freedom of thought or belief. Today’s liberals don’t think for themselves, and therefore shouldn’t even be allowed to call themselves liberals, because they are bound by the mob mentality. They’re imprisoned by the confines of popularity, believing that if they are in the minority, they’re wrong. Folks, that’s a disease.

What makes a good republican good is the headstrong nature which prevails in the face of adversity. The knowledge and wisdom to make decisions and commit witout caving to the pressures of what is popular is the cornerstone of the republican mentality. A good republican doesn’t admit to knowing everything, but makes a concise decision and sticks with it. This is a leadership quality that is often overlooked and devalued in today’s modern political circus. The fact that John Kerry can “flip-flop” and publically and emphatically deny that which he supported only a few months before his campaign started, and still maintain a close race tells you that. The liberal voters in America never care about strength of leadership; they only see what they’re told to see, speak what they’re told to speak, and vote how they’re told to vote.

What makes a good liberal is the suave, MTV-embraced TV star who knows how to swoon a crowd. When in this mode it is much less important what the message is as it is how the message is delivered. If Hillary Clinton secures more of Hollywood’s elite than say, Barack Hussein Obama, she’ll win the democratic primary race without any problems. If she makes herself look hip, and talks the talk, she’ll even be elected president. It won’t matter what her platform is; only that she’s a pop star. A loyal liberal will dismiss her as a candidate and vote for her just because everyone else did.

If you think I’m full of shit, go ahead and ask a few liberals what John Kerry’s platform was during his 2004 election bid. Ask them who his running mate was. Hell, even ask them for which state John Kerry has served in congress for more than 30 years. I’ll bet most of them won’t know any of these, just because those aren’t important factors in an election. He talks like JFK, and looks passionate enough though.

Liberalism is a disease (or a disorder at the very least). We should be committing patients to institutions for it rather than letting them nominate candidates for congress or presidency. As a conservative republican, it is my job - in part - to rehabilitate those liberals around me. Make sure you join the cause, because if we can save just one, we’ve done a good job.
