I don’t typically go after the obvious in my postings, but I gotta put one up for the Super Bowl… It only happens once a year, and I should say SOMETHING about it.

I’m pleased. Tony Dungee finally got the ring he was cheated out of in Tampa. John Gruden became the recipient of a Super Bowl championship built by Tony Dungee. Dungee was fired (inexplicably) during the off-season just before the Buccaneers won the championship. The only thing that Gruden brought with him which wasn’t in place was a knowledge of the Oakland Raiders team. Beyond that, all the legwork was Dungee’s.

The game itself was sort of anti-climactic. I was disappointed in both teams performances, and the win for the Colts ultimately boiled down to Indianapolis not making as many mistakes. Despite the play of the teams, I liked watching the game in the rain. Football is an outdoor game, and the rain had plenty to do with the outcome yesterday. Outdoors in the conditions is how football is supposed to be played.

My Uncle Jim is a Bears fan, so our gameroom was split. I was pulling for the Colts, but I wouldn’t have minded the Bears winning; They’re one of only two NFC teams I can tolerate to watch. Jim was thinking the exact opposite. He wasn’t overly disappointed when the Colts won. We’re Steeler fans here, and Dungee is a ring-toting member of the Super Bowl XIII Pittsburgh Steelers, so we were all pleased to see Dungee Make it.

I guess we can finally stop talking about Manning as if he were doomed to his father’s legacy, or in comparison with Dan Marino. He finally got the elusive ring… Let us move on.
