Why Digg Does NOT Need a Photos Section
Ok, so for the last few weeks, I’ve been reading what seems like a post per day about how bad Digg needs a photos section. I wanted to quickly chime in on why Digg does NOT need a photo section.
First, Digg has more people visiting its site each day than most people realize. It delivers traffic to thousands of websites on a daily basis, and it’s working without a photos section. To fully comprehend why this is significant, you’ll have to trust me when I say Kevin Rose and his ownership group do not (I REPEAT: DO NOT) care about the integrity of Digg, unless it is affecting their bottom line. Fraudulent Diggs and paid digging/posting etc… ultimately affects their bottom line, therefore they continue to work to ban those types of things. Short of that, Digg is profitable as it is.
Second, if Digg caves on something like this, what else will be next? “Top 10 Reasons Why Digg Needs a Scratch-n-Sniff Section”, or “Top 26 Reasons Digg Needs a Steve Jobs Section”, or maybe a “Digg MP3 Section Concept Design (with Photos) … Amazing”.
Finally, Flickr is all the photo section I need.
I’m not a huge fan of the politicing on Digg, but I am willing to scroll and click to find some good news and article. I refuse to engage in the popularity contest digg.com has become, but the site still has its merit. If Digg caves on this, it will open the door for all of the people out there who think they have a clue. I say Digg doesn’t need a photo section.
