The Three Simplest Domain Names Ever…Completely Misused
I got bored today at work, and since I had a free moment, I decided to have some internet fun. I’ve thought to look at the following websites, but I never have for some reason or another…until today. This tells you how bored I was! I should remember this crap from college, but I don’t, so be easy on me. I know the .com domain has been around a while, and the .net and .org domains are about as old, if not exactly as old. Of course, the .com is reserved (or was supposed to be reserved) for commercial websites, whereas .net was for networks, and .org for not-for-profit organizations. Restrictions have been lifted for sometime now, and I own a few of each. But what about some of the first domains to be registered…What about:
While each of these three domains are among the first registered, none (I don’t think) are what they were originally, and all of them are being completely misused. Com.com is now a redirect for CNET - The Internet’s biggest whore. CNET is like the guy who finds $20 bill on the ground. They’ll look to see if nobody else is claiming it, and if it’s free, they soak it up. Ah well, what are you gonna do?
Net.net is apparently registered privately, so I can’t say anything about who owns it, but if you clicked the link above, you got the carefully-placed:
“This space intentionally left blank”
message. What gives man? Sell that puppy to somebody who can do something useful with it…like porn, or um…uh…I guess porn.
And the Org.org takes the cake. Not only did someone take the time to register this domain, they also actually keep content there. Sure, there is no index, or html of any kind, but there is content there…. Pictures of old dirty windows. Hmm. What a great use for one of the more sought after domains ever.
I guess I’m not upset by this…I mean it really is no skin off my sack, but I think it’s weird how if anyone of these owners sold to the right person, they’d never have to work again. That’s for three measly little letters, typed twice with a period. Inconceivable.
Well, I guess I should get back to work…not that I have something to do. By the way, this post was entirely written out of the same boredom which led me to those sites. Caio.
