I'll lend him no credit for originality on this one. If I recall, there were a few groups interested in purchasing the team, although McClatchy was the most vocal and active, which is why his group won. I have no doubt that whoever it was who bought the team (to remain in Pittsburgh) would have pushed for a new venue too. McClatchy was the warm body who took advantage of the situation. I have no doubt that whoever it was who bought the team (to remain in Pittsburgh) would have pushed for a new venue too.

Don't forget that if it wasn' for McClacthy there may no longer be a baseball team in Pittsburgh. He also created the beautiful PNC Park. In short, McClatchy kept baseball alive for Pittsburgh.
