We’ve had some snow storms here in the Pittsburgh area over say the last five years or so, but nothing I would call “major”. If you live in Florida or Southern California, then maybe 3″-6″ of snow in 24 hours would be major, but here in Pittsburgh, we eat that much snow for breakfast (except for the people in their cars… it’s as if they’ve never seen the stuff before).

What I’m looking for is one of those big storms which just shuts everything down. You went to bed at 10:30pm and woke up to 10″+ on the ground at 6:30am and it’s still falling. You turn on the Weather Channel (or pull up weather.com in your favorite browser) and check the local radar to find that it’s going to keep snowing for a few hours. By 1:00pm it’s all but stopped, but there is a foot of snow on the ground (and roof, and car, etc…). Sure you might dread the thought of having to shovel all that wet, heavy snow, but look at it… It’s peaceful and serene. The snow outside sucks up sound before it can travel very far, so everything is really quiet. There are no cars, not buses, or subways, which is ok because there is nowhere to go. The only foot traffic outside are the neighborhood’s kids lugging their sleds behind them to the tallest hill around for a day of fun since the school was closed. Enviously, you stand at the window and watch them throw snow at one another.

Anyway, it’s been years since we had a storm roll in like that… I miss it and I think it’s time for another one… Anyone? Hey, it is December… Christmas is almost here… We’ve earned a white Christmas, why not make it a REALLY white Christmas?
